Sandy Wilds, RN, BS, MS

Sandy is a former chief nursing officer with over 30 years of progressive leadership experience in a variety of health system settings.

Areas of expertise include operational assessment and performance improvement; strategic planning and program development in addition to clinical operations consulting for architectural firms.

She has management experience at departmental and division levels in acute care hospitals, both urban and rural, physician practices, and a multi-hospital network. A proven ability to direct and lead both clinical and non-clinical departments including: inpatient medical surgical and intensive care units, surgical services, ICU, emergency, endoscopy, imaging services, food services, environmental services and pharmacy.

Sandy has a clinical background in invasive cardiology, electrophysiology and peripheral vascular nursing; and a reputation for dedicated teamwork and an in-depth knowledge of interdisciplinary issues.

Her clients have included Saint John's Health System, Northern Michigan Regional Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Health System, Lakeland Health, Southern Ohio Medical Center and Parkview Whitley Hospital.

Accomplishments:

  • Sandy has developed an evidence-based approach to planning and designing healthcare facilities and has provided management mentoring and project support.
  • She has developed departmental productivity standards and benchmark tools and has reviewed, revised and drafted policy and procedures to meet accreditation standards (both JCAHO AND HFAP).
  • In addition, Sandy has developed and implemented of service level agreements and audit processes, capacity management, patient throughput, and work redesign.
  • She has conducted facility assessments and functional space planning and assisted clients with transition planning for new facility occupancy.
  • Recently, she coordinated the planning, design and building of a new patient tower that included obstetrical services, an acuity adaptable bariatric unit, and emergency/clinical decision/short stay department.
